On 25th April, Nepal was hit by a massive earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale. As per latest reports, more than 6800 people have died and around 14,000 have been injured. Close to 8 million people, which includes 3.2 million children and adolescents are living in makeshift shelters. Since roads, bridges, along with infrastructures, were destroyed, access and communication to the victims has been a big challenge. Braving these difficulties, Save the Children’s team arrived on the scene with life-saving aid, within a matter of few hours. They came with tarpaulins and ropes to set up temporary shelters. Baby kits, which included warm clothes, blankets, and soaps, were also distributed.

The team is also working with the local government to ensure that the children and their parents are reunited. They are ensuring access to clean water and sanitation, along with distribution of hygiene kits. Extra support is being given to the mothers of malnourished children, so that the babies and young children get enough of the right food.

Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO, Bvlgari Group is happy that the group could make a timely contribution. He added that the need was to do as much as possible, and as quickly as possible, especially in the crucial area of nutrition.

Bvlgari has actively been supporting Save the Children, since 2009. To date, it has donated close to $35 million to the organisation, helping deprived children in 25 countries around the world. The house also aided Save the Children’s humanitarian efforts during the earthquakes in Haiti (2010), Japan (2011), and China (2013).

Alongside, they have also provided support to Syrian children at the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan. Plans were also on to start a new youth empowerment programme in Nepal, next year. Kudos to them for their selfless support and dedication.

Our whole team at watchthespace is praying for the speedy normalization of things in Nepal. We hope they are able to piece their lives together, soon. Godspeed…
